Golden Bean Potted Plant

When we use golden beans as bonsai, the leaves often turn yellow, and many bonsai enthusiasts are troubled by this. To make the golden beans we raise hang on the branches, we need to start from the following aspects.

Keep the soil fertile and loose
Golden beans come from southern China and prefer loose, fertile, and well-drained slightly acidic soil.

If the soil for planting golden beans is too sticky or the soil is too alkaline, it may cause the yellow leaves of golden beans.

Therefore, it is recommended that you check the soil for planting golden beans carefully, and replace it if the soil is not suitable.

We use leaf mold mixed with coarse river sand, 7:3 is enough. When watering golden beans, try to use rainwater to prevent the soil from becoming alkaline.

Sufficient light exposure time
Golden beans like light but are afraid of strong light. There must be sufficient light intensity and duration during the growth period. The golden bean bonsai must first see more mild sunlight.

Generally, the sunlight is mild in spring, autumn and winter, so the golden beans can be exposed to the sun as much as possible. In summer, the sunlight is strong, so the golden beans should be shaded and maintained. Insufficient light and excessive light may cause yellow leaves on the golden beans.

Proper watering
In addition to the light problem, golden beans do not like the soil to be too wet for a long time, so we need to water them appropriately according to the current season.

If it is summer, the frequency of watering can be higher, and try to keep the soil slightly moist without water accumulation.

If it is winter, keep the soil slightly dry and control the frequency of watering appropriately to prevent the bonsai from rotting roots or frostbite.

Fertilization of golden bean bonsai is very necessary, but the concentration of fertilizer needs to be controlled. It is usually not advisable to apply uncomposted organic fertilizer, otherwise the golden beans will easily have yellow leaves and fall leaves.

In addition, when the temperature is too low in winter, it is not suitable to fertilize the golden bean, no matter what fertilizer is used.

If it is a low temperature in winter, the golden bean bonsai will generally enter dormancy and the root system cannot absorb it. Fertilizing at this time will not only waste fertilizer, but also “burn the seedlings”, resulting in yellow leaves or fallen leaves.

Suitable growth temperature
The golden bean bonsai itself has a certain cold resistance, but if the flower pot for planting golden beans cannot hold too much soil. Then, try not to let the ambient temperature around the bonsai fall below zero degrees, otherwise it will easily turn the leaves of the golden bean yellow.

Prevent pests and diseases early
When maintaining the golden bean bonsai on a daily basis, we must also be careful of a series of pests such as scale insects, and prevent black mold while treating pests.

As a bonsai enthusiast, I have a strong interest in gardening, art and nature. I often spend a lot of time studying different tree species, pruning techniques and cultivation methods, hoping to reproduce the beautiful scenes of nature in a small space.
